October 17 marks Omani Women’s Day, celebrating women’s contributions to education, healthcare, technology, business, and other professional fields.

On this occasion, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) celebrates its female personnel, who are dedicated to maintaining security, preserving public order, and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens and residents.

Reflecting on this commitment, Major Thuraya bint Ahmed al Kalbani, Head of the Press and Publishing at the Directorate of Relations and Security Information, said, “I feel the trust that our leadership has placed in us. Every morning when I wear my uniform, I feel that I represent thousands of female ROP personnel who have given their all for the nation’s security.” She added, “This day sheds light on the capability of Omani women to serve on the front lines, carrying out their duties with unwavering dedication and competence.”

Beyond front-line operations, women have contributed significantly to the development of the ROP’s policing services, setting an example of excellence in governance and institutional performance.

Highlighting this impact in specialised fields, Lieutenant Safia bint Salim al Hakmani, a Psychologist at the Directorate-General of Planning and Development, said, “I am committed to applying the knowledge and skills I have gained through my specialisation to improving work processes and leading initiatives that enhance the quality of services provided to the community.”

Indeed, female officers and other ranks within the ROP play a key role in institutional security, with responsibilities that extend beyond traditional policing duties to encompass public safety and the protection of individuals’ rights.

Lieutenant Shaikha bint Rashid al Raisi, of the Digital Laboratory at Muscat Governorate Police Command, said, “As a forensic specialist, I examine digital evidence and extract information that assists in solving criminal cases.”

She added, “Combining knowledge and technical skills has enabled me to overcome challenges, and I am proud of the digital solutions I have developed. These include tools that help identify perpetrators’ images among thousands of images in just a few minutes, as well as techniques for detecting manipulated videos, including those generated by artificial intelligence.”

Within the ROP, many female officers undertake highly sensitive responsibilities in forensic genetics, a complex field that demands extensive scientific knowledge, analytical thinking, precision, and meticulous attention to detail.

Lieutenant Ghaida bint Said al Mamari, specialising in genetic and genomic science, commented, “I have developed the knowledge and skills necessary in forensic genetics to analyse genetic data and conduct DNA profiling, supporting criminal investigations, identifying suspects, and uncovering the circumstances surrounding crimes.”

She emphasised, “I believe that women’s participation in complex fields such as forensic genetics demonstrates our ability to handle demanding tasks, address challenges, develop solutions, and adapt to rapid technological advancements.”

The achievements of Omani women reflect a distinguished journey marked by dedication, professionalism, and excellence. Looking ahead, the future holds further opportunities for women to expand their contributions across diverse fields, lead initiatives that serve the public, and enhance the quality of services provided to the community.
